Employment Opportunity: Mechanic - Public Works

Mower County is accepting applications for Mechanic - Public Works (full-time, union position) Starting wage is $21.51 – $24.09 per hour dependent upon education and experience.

Mechanics are responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of all county owned vehicles and equipment.  The position performs truck inspections as required by MnDOT. Also, assists in the maintenance and repair of culverts by performing welding responsibilities. Installs and maintains equipment and radios on all Sheriff’s department vehicles.  

Position requires an Associate’s Degree or Vocational certificate in automotive, truck and heavy equipment repair and one year experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy road and vehicle equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job and a valid MN Class A commercial driver’s license. Successful applicant will be required to attain the following certifications/endorsements/trainings within six months of hire: MNDOT Truck Inspector, Air Conditioning Certification, Tanker Endorsement, Forklift Training, and A.S.E. Certification in brakes, suspension and steering on cars, light trucks, heavy trucks, and equipment. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted and must maintain a valid MNDOT health card.

This position protects and promotes the health of Mower County citizens through the delivery of education and health services. Duties include, coordinating the care of individuals eligible for public health services; conducting public clinics to treat, screen, and prevent health concerns; investigating community health threats; preparing for public health emergencies; establishing contacts with local service providers; and educating community groups, schools, and the public on a variety of health topics.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines/statutes for public health is required upon entry. Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in nursing with a current Registered Nurse licensure and Public Health nurse certification. Requires a valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility. Plus related work experience sufficient to perform the duties of this job in accordance with equivalencies established by MN Merit System. A pre-employment criminal back ground check is required.
